Why is autumn the best season for reflection?
The fall has arrived, bringing with it a lot of energy that can depress us. Rather than resisting this energy, we can embrace it as a chance for introspection.
The days become shorter, the air becomes cooler, and the leaves begin to turn vibrant colors—it’s hard not to want to slow down when nature invites us in this way!
When autumn comes around, I often think about my plans and goals and look forward to new beginnings.
Now is a great time to think about ourselves and our lives for a number of reasons.

There is a shift in the air.
Don’t you think fall is a magical time of year?
The changing of the seasons and astrological signs, as well as the new moon (and thus a blank slate), are all powerful reminders that there is no better time to reflect on your past and future.
It’s easy to get caught up in daily life, but if you take some time out for yourself now and then, especially during this season of reflection, you’ll find yourself feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever comes next.
This time of year always gives me the impression that the world is full of possibilities and promise.
Are you ready to begin reflecting?
This energy has the potential to depress us, but we can turn it to our advantage.
Autumn is a great time to think about all the good things in our lives and make plans for the future. It’s also a great time to spend time outside, cuddle up with loved ones, or write in your journal.
The fall season can be exciting—a chance to plan ahead and make or break plans as we approach the cold months.
This is an excellent time to set goals because you have more energy than usual (thank you, daylight savings!) but are still focused on what is most important: taking care of yourself.
As a professional evaluator who specializes in strategic planning and continuous improvement, I have a few tips for looking back on the past year and setting goals for the next:
- Set goals that are within one month of completion.
