3 Ways to be Successful without Hustle Culture
Finding & fostering community allows you to grow together. It may feel like a race or like there’s a finite amount of success to go around, but trust me — there is enough for all of us.
Hustle culture tricks us into thinking we need to work all the time, invest every penny back into our business, sell sell sell, and that anyone doing something similar to us is our competitor. That “good things come to those who hustle.” Though my thinking was different even five years ago, today, I am NOT here for it.
Here are 3 ways you can be successful without the hustle:
- Be you! Know that as a human you have inherent worth — no matter what. You don’t have to do or sell or achieve anything to be worthy. Just by being alive and being you, you are worthy and whole. That was one of the best lessons I learned in therapy and I think it is one of the key ingredients to defeating hustle culture.
- Invest in yourself! Investing in yourself can look like outsourcing things you struggle with to free up time for doing the things you love and learning new things. Investing in yourself not only gives you more space to be creative and do the things you love, it also helps prevent burnout. You are worth the investment.
- Build meaningful connections with others. This is harder than ever right now, but I think that makes it even more important. I know this is no easy task, but it is so worth it. Authentic and meaningful relationships are (or should be) at the core of all we do in work, life, and as a part of our larger communities. As a small business owner and evaluator / data wrangler, I often feel isolated just tapping away on my computer all day. Once even said to someone “You know where to find me, here in excel.” …Like excel was an actual destination. 🙄🤦🏻♀️
Collaboration and connection are crucial to defeat hustle culture. So grab a coffee, even if it’s virtual, have lunch, go for a walk with a friend or do my favorite weekday activity and “mom call” one of your friends. Send me an email if you want to know what a mom call is!
Ultimately, you didn’t start a business to burn yourself out.
If you work for another company or organization, know that you are worth more than your work. So so so much more. The amount you produce is just right, no matter the amount or the speed.
However you are, whatever you do, it’s just right because it’s just you. ❤️
